This very rare, limited edition bourbon takes generations of distilling know-how to produce. Only the most careful and expensive distilling method can be used to create a whiskey as special as this one. Each barrel ages 13 years and is carefully selected from the heart of the warehouse. This whiskey should be enjoyed neat. In keeping with Old Rip Van Winkle’s range, this bottling is a decidedly well-aged rye whiskey, matured for 13 years. A covetable bottle for American whiskey enthusiasts. Pappy Van Winkle for sale, Pappy Van Winkle’s Family Reserve Rye 13 Year Old, Pappy Van Winkle’s Family Reserve Rye 23 Year Old

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Good and oily, tangy spices, and sublime toasty oak. This is a more charred whiskey than the others in the range, and it offers up fresh black pepper and Applewood aromas.

Palate: Very spicy/sweet. Here caramel is joined by prune, dates, and thick, biscuit oak.

Finish: Spices and crunchy wood, at 47.8% abv, this is a HUGE whiskey!

Early aromas of caramel and cream with soft notes of oak, nuts, and leather. Features a sweet taste composed of vanilla, maple, and honey joined by complimentary flavors of citrus and spice. Has a long-lasting oaky finish, along with many of the early flavors.

  1. Jersey

I’m impressed, I have to admit. Rarely do I come across such great services and response time. Van Winkle Family Reserve Rye welcomes me with dark honey, peach, cherry, licorice, marshmallows, a spritz of fresh orange and lemon, honeydew, tobacco, and oak. It’s peach-forward for a rye whiskey, really any whiskey in general, and the 13 years of aging are quite subdued with not a lot of roasted oak or dryness.

Now I understand what you meant about the VW rye when we traded, it’s ok, but not the best out there.

  3. Dan

I don’t have much to say about Van Winkle Family Reserve Rye. It has the legendary Pappy Van Winkle name (minus the Pappy part) and is the only rye whiskey currently offered by them. I wonder why they have 5 wheated bourbon offerings but only 1 rye offering, but I’ll probably never find out. Just like the fact i bought 13yrs Van Winkle whiskeys for and it was every bit of it. what an experience

  4. Rex

Wow it just fizzled like a wet sparkler in a downpour. I still enjoyed the more subdued notes of rye, sugary sweetness and some vanilla. Top quality from you guys, thanks!!

  5. Phillips

I love this rye. It’s one of my favorite whiskies currently available. I love the “smooth” bourbon-like qualities as well as the unmistakable rye body notes of dried , dark fruit. Thanks for coming through bourbon foundry house

I am a regular buyer here, how are you everybody? You know, I came away extremely impressed with this rye. For some reason, this has more kick- the heat adds an element that was missing in the more recent bottle that I had tried repeatedly and just could not enjoy as well as most others.

I’ve heard some people not like the 15 this year, but I found the intense coconut cake and sandalwood flavors to be very pleasant. There was a bit of funky, earthiness too that isn’t for everybody. It’s not a perfect bourbon, but complex and enjoyable to me for sure. I haven’t had another vintage of the 15 so I can’t compare.

Van Winkle Family Reserve Rye is undoubtedly a mature, complex, and captivating rye that sometimes doesn’t really smell or taste like a rye whiskey. It’s so uniquely citrus and honeydew forward, and always so warmly welcoming, the opposite of the sledgehammer that is EH Taylor Barrel Proof Bourbon
Thanks for sharing information with me and the bottle tasted like you had mentioned

At times buying online from someone for the first may seem sketchy, doubtable or all sorts of concerns. When i made up my mind to pay for my 13 yrs pappy van winkle from bourbon foundry house i still had my doubts. i received my package, it was what i expected. Very interesting. Instant red twizzlers, then honeyed molasses and heavy french toast and maple syrup notes. Unique nonetheless.

I just wanna rate this 13yrs pappy van winkle i bought from your website. A truly exceptional whiskey with flawless smell and taste that should be treasured, savored, and shared with your closest friends. It makes me say, “wow, this is one of the the best drinks I’ve ever had”.

  11. kimdir

The fruitiness immediately transitions into a mix of honey, honeydew, oak tannins, licorice, and vanilla. The 13 years of oak aging show up a little more in the finish, fading into a long lasting mint, honeydew, and just a small chunk of the inner rind that makes it a tad vegetal. With “chewing”, the finish is more fruit-forward with citrus, peach, honey, clove, licorice, a little oak, and a smidge of alcohol tingle since I let it sit in my mouth for a while. It’s a very classy and refined finish.
PS that’s how i felt, i appreciate you guys for the well packaged gift you added to my delivery

  12. Timy

I was expecting a coupon from you guys but wow!! the gift you added to my order was more than a surprise, this shows how you actually care about your clients. Thanks!

I honestly have to say I am a little let down from the VW rye. Maybe it’s the allure of having Van Winkle, but I was expecting something more complex and tasty. Overall it’s a simple rye; the nose is peculiar, the body is close to being great, and the finish is almost non-existent.

  14. inga

scarcity is what powers the Van Winkle craze! I’m glad to have gotten mine from you guys at ease

  15. isobel

A great whiskey worth buying, with standout smells and flavors, but with some small flaws. It makes me say, “wow this is amazing”.
