Last week, Smooth Ambler and Sovereign Wine and Spirits unveiled the results of a months-long collaboration with the Bartenders Benevolent Fund (BBF) and the Canadian Professional Bartenders Association (CPBA). They released four limited-edition Custom Old Scout Bourbon whiskies at select retailers across Alberta. The collaboration celebrates fine spirits and supports charitable programs in the community.
The team poured each version of the Custom Old Scout Bourbon from hand-selected Smooth Ambler casks. The alcohol by volume ranges from 56.4% to 58.4% ABV. Members of the BBF and CPBA selected the casks to ensure a unique, high-quality flavor.
“During the summer, Sovereign Canada approached the Bartenders Benevolent Fund to create a whiskey that would support the fund,” says Madeleine MacDonald, a hospitality management instructor at SAIT. “I met with Alan Screaton of Sovereign Alberta to taste samples from Smooth Ambler casks and choose which ones to bottle for the BBF.” Her expertise helped shape this limited-edition release.
For every bottle sold, Sovereign Canada donates $5 to both the BBF and the CPBA, totaling $10 per bottle. The initiative aims to raise $7,000. The funds support mental health assistance, food insecurity relief, and pet food programs.
Collectors and whiskey enthusiasts can buy the Custom Old Scout Bourbon whiskies at select Alberta retailers. They can also request out-of-province shipping. Limited supply and high demand make this release a must-have. The collaboration highlights premium whiskey craftsmanship, charitable giving, and community engagement, making it a standout addition to any collection.
